Active for over 30 years, the Society for the Protection of Prespa (SPP) is a Greek non-profit, non-governmental organisation. Founded in 1991, it is based in the villages of Agios Germanos and Laimos, in the heart of the Prespa lakes region shared by Greece, Albania and North Macedonia.
Our vision is to see the remarkable environment, wildlife and landscape of Prespa, together with its cultural heritage, sustained for the benefit of all. We work with many partners to protect the globally important Prespa lakes, helping to create a world where people and nature thrive together. The SPP brought together all the voices advocating for Prespa’s incredible natural diversity under one umbrella and today has 8 Greek environmental organisations as members, as well as 2 international permanent observers.
