HOLY WATER

Enhancing the cultural touristic product of the transboundary area of Prespa through the promotion of the natural and cultural heritage

The project entitled “Enhancing the cultural touristic product of the transboundary area of Prespa through the promotion of the natural and cultural heritage”, or “Holy Water” for short, was an attempt to comprehensively approach tourism development in the transboundary area of Prespa through the promotion of cultural and environmental values. The project partners (Municipality of Prespa, Municipality of Resen, Ephorate of Antiquities of Florina, Bitola Museum and the Society for the Protection of Prespa) collectively faced the challenge of tourism development in the transboundary area and the project actions aimed to better organise all the cultural, environmental and tourist information regarding the transboundary area of Prespa using new technologies.

As part of its activities under the project, the Society for the Protection of Prespa (SPP) undertook to implement a series of activities around the Agios Germanos watermill that included a related environmental education package for young visitors, the provision of ramps for wheelchair access and the installation of a Braille information board, as well as placing new information boards at points of environmental and cultural interest around Greek Prespa. The SPP also promoted the watermill at transboundary level, co-ordinating with tourism companies in neighbouring North Macedonia.
