Watermill Complex

Supplementary Restoration of the Watermill of Agios Germanos
Watermill Complex

An additional restoration phase for the Agios Germanos watermill was completed in 2024. This work saw a second watermill in the complex being restored to its former glory, directly adjacent to the first. Its water-powered flour-milling mechanism has also been repaired, while the area surrounding the complex has been further landscaped to meet visitor needs.
Furthermore, a sensitively designed new facility, attractively housed within the semi-ruined walls of an old ancillary building, is now providing visitor-friendly amenities.

With respect for both the traditional architectural style and the area’s natural environment, the restoration of this notable monument of Prespa’s cultural heritage was approached in the same spirit as that of the original watermill building, which was recognised in 2016 with the highly regarded Europa Nostra award for its exemplary reconstruction. The watermill complex now serves as an attraction for visitors to the area, including many school groups
