The Society for the Protection of Prespa presents the “Follow the Pelican” application

The Society for the Protection of Prespa announces the launch of the new digital application “Follow the Pelican,” an innovative tool that allows the general public to closely explore the lives of pelicans and track their movements in real time.
Through this page, users can “follow” Dalmatian pelicans equipped with transmitters, discovering their impressive routes from wetland to wetland across the Balkan Peninsula. These routes reveal a less visible yet fascinating world: the life cycle of pelicans and their close connection to ecosystems that are critical for their survival.
The aim of the application is to spark public curiosity and strengthen people’s connection with nature, leading to a deeper understanding of the importance of protecting pelicans and their wetlands. At the same time, the platform enables the integration of tracking data with the broader research and conservation work of the Society, as well as with the threats faced by these species and their habitats.
The app is designed for the general public, as well as specialized groups such as birdwatchers, wildlife photographers, and scientists, while also serving as an important communication tool with stakeholders, partners, and supporters. In addition, it promotes citizen participation (citizen science), especially in efforts to collect data from different wetlands.
With “Follow the Pelican,” the Society brings the public closer to a world that usually remains unseen, highlighting the importance of protecting pelicans and their wetlands. The application aims to be another step toward strengthening awareness and active participation in nature conservation.
