The story of Luc: The pelican who collided with power lines and is fighting for his life!

Luc, who nests in Prespa, has been monitored via a transmitter since 2023, providing us with valuable information about his movements. A few days ago, his transmitter remained stationary in one location, which raised concerns.

We found him alive but severely injured beneath a high-voltage power pylon near Kleidi, Amyntaio, suffering from serious burns caused by electrocution. The dense fog in the area makes obstacles invisible threats, often leading to injuries or fatalities. This is the fifth similar incident we have recorded through our transmitters.

He was immediately transferred to the Wildlife Action rehabilitation center, where he is currently receiving treatment, though his condition remains uncertain.

Thanks to his transmitter, Luke was found and now has a second chance! His case reminds us of the urgent need for measures to prevent such dangers. Pelicans face significant threats from power lines and wind turbines.
